    Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

    What is it?

It’s an electrotherapy modality sometimes used by physiotherapists to provide pain relief for certain patients. It works by stimulating the nerves responsible for feeling, which in turn activates our body’s natural pain relief mechanisms.

    What can I expect?

    – Your physiotherapist will place 1-4 small adhesive pads to the affected area for a few minutes.
    – The gel pads contain electrodes through which the electrical current is transmitted.
    – You will likely feel a light tingling sensation, very similar to experiencing ‘pins & needles’
